Fighting Knife (Kampfmesser)

Seller: Decent shipping speed from coast to coast. Well-packaged; minimalistic but effective. Product itself: Good fit and finish. Solid construction all around. Straight, clean grinds on the blade. Beautiful mirror polish (which unfortunately gets scratched by the scabbard). Strong retention in the scabbard, and decent clip retention as well. Wooden handle is ergonomic, smooth, and well-formed. May be too small for larger hands, but perfect for mine. Handle rivets stick out on one side, but not uncomfortably so. Edge is unsharpened, but easily fixed with a file and stone. Balance is slightly forward of the guard, but the knife flows nimbly in both saber and icepick grips. Blade steel is far from MagnaCut or whatever new supersteel they make these days, but this type of knife was intended to be used more along the lines of a bayonet anyways - just a good old-fashioned soldier-sticker.

Decent quality knife. All of the parts of the knife fit together snugly and do not wiggle. Very slight wiggle when the knife is in the scabbard. I did not give this knife a 5 star review for two reasons. The first is that the clip on the scabbard is easily bent out and loses it ability to grip your belt. The second is that the edge upon arrival is practically non existent. Expect to have to put the edge on it yourself. Other than these two faults it is a decent knife.

The kampfmesser came in a few days early. The quality is decent and to be expected at the price it was offered. Most of the lower portion of the blade was not sharpened but this area contacts the metal sheath while drawing it. The point and about 1 inch on either wide of the blade features sharpening to an actual edge. The magnet to keep the blade in the sheath is extremely strong. The metal clips to attach the sheath to other things are a semi-weak point, they don't really grip anything that isn't a very sturdy material like a belt or moderately thick denim. The magnet actually hold things better than the clips. I am very happy with my purchase and I'm tempted to purchase a second.
