The sports badge was awarded by the D.R.L. (German National Union for Physical Training) to German soldiers for athletic achievement and to promote physical fitness among the German people. The Gold badge was given to recipients of the Silver Badge who were able to pass a five part physical test for an additional seven years consecutively. This badge could also be awarded for those who were over the age of 40 who passed the same physical test within 12 months. Awarded to all branches of service.
