The SA (Sturmabteilung) Sports badge in bronze was originally awarded to SA and SS personnel who passed physical fitness, military defense and field exercises requirements set by SA-Stabschef Ernst Röhm starting in 1933. Later, in an effort to create a more physically fit German people, Hitler allowed the award to be bestowed on all German nationals as well as expanded grades to include silver and gold in 1935.
