Very nice M43
This is for the Einheitsfeldmütze “M43” w/o insignia, size 60, item 2114187. I got this for recreational use (camping, etc.). So, is this cap worth the $40 ($48 - $52 w/ insignia)? BLUF: yes. The cap has some good features but also lacking some. Cap is well made…stitching is clean and tight. Wool is of nice quality. My size 60 ran true to size. Very comfortable as the cotton lining is way better than the satin/rayon linings which get really nasty after a while. Crown does have the traditional teardrop shape. The bill doesn’t feel like cardboard (they say it’s fiberboard). The “Yeah, buts…”: For those who are the purist type: Some may say the shade of the wool is off a bit, but originals were all over the spectrum. The bill feels stiffer and more durable than cardboard, but it’s not leather and will crease if not careful. The side walls of the cap are not as tapered as some may like so the stitching where the crown meets the sides is not as much on the top of the head giving the cap the appearance more of a Bergmütze with a “M43” bill. To be fair, I’ve seen caps that cost quite a bit more that have the same issue. It lacks the stiffener in the front so getting that Jäger pinsch is difficult (insignia may help). It also lacks the earmuff loops on the inside bottom edge of the side curtain/ear flaps. If one, some, or all of the above are deal-breakers, then get out your checkbook and be prepared to pay close to 2 to 2 1/2 times more for those goodies. So for me, it was $40 well spent. Order was filled, shipped, and delivered quickly.

Best Hat
This is the best hat in so many ways. It is very warm, and I get compliments all the time. Living in Portland Oregon, I need a hat most every day, to keep warm, and rain off of my glasses. The only insignia I wear is the harmless Edelweiss. A great hat that I have a few of. My other favorite hat is Hessen's Late War M43. Both well built.
