Originally instituted in October 1914 the Brunswick War Merit Cross, aka "Ernst-Augustkreuz", was a military decoration awarded to all ranks for merit in battle by the Duke of Brunswick, Ernest Augustus. Our reproduction cross features an embossed, central, "EA" cypher for Duke Ernest Augustus, flanked by oak-leaf clusters, with the Brunswick crown at the top arm and the original institution date of "1914" along the bottom arm. On the reverse is the inscription"Für Verdienst im Kriege" (For Merit in War). Includes approx. 5" of corresponding ribbon.
