East German Sports Badge Set (1956-1965)

Original Set of East German Sports Achievement Badge of the GDR (Sportleistungsabzeichen der DDR.) This is the forth variation manufactured from 1956-1965. These badges were based on the appearance of the traditional German Sports Badge, which had been introduced by the German Reich Committee for Olympic Games (DRA) in 1912 and also awarded in 1934-1945 under the name Reich Sports Badge. This version consists of a 51 mm high oval oak leaf wreath with the inscription: BEREIT ZUR ARBEIT UND ZUR VERTEIDIGUNG DER HEIMAT (READY FOR WORK AND FOR THE DEFENSE OF THE HOMELAND). In the middle of the wreath are the intertwined letters: DDR. Underneath on a curved lettering: SPORTABZEICHEN (SPORTS BADGE.)

This set contains all three levels of the award, Bronze, Silver and Gold.  All three are in Excellent condition. Perfect for any DDR and NVA collector.
