The War Merit Cross First Class With Swords was awarded for contributions to the war effort. It could be earned for a wide variety of service, ranging from munitions production to work in the propaganda department. The decoration was one in a series of War Merit awards, and was established on Oct. 18, 1939. The medal is composed of a silver cross patee, with a swastika inside a wreath at the center. The decoration was worn on the left breast pocket. Our high-quality reproduction is made of nickel and measures nearly two inches wide. The reverse is fitted with a simple pin-back.
