The Demjansk Shield was instituted on 25th April 1943 and was authorized for all members of the Armed Forces who participated in the defense and break out of the besieged Russian village of Demjansk between February 8TH 1941 and April 21ST 1942. The shield was worn on the upper left sleeve of the service and dress uniforms. The Silver-Grey version of the Demjansk Shield was awarded to Heer and Luftwaffe personnel who served in the area for at least sixty days, were wounded, or flew fifty flights over the area during the battle. These are the finest quality, die struck pieces featuring superb detail on a Field-Grey Wool backing.
